Eating and Drinking
For a small village New Quay is awash with pubs, 9 in total, all of which are never more than a 10 minute stumble from the front door.
There are also several places to eat, the best of which is the recently refurbished Penrhiwllan Restaurant which serves some excellent locally sourced food. The Hungry Trout is also reasonable and has a few tables outside overlooking the bay. There are two fish and chip shops and several cafes (including an internet café – New Quay moves into the 21st century) and most of the pubs serve standard pub grub.
A little further a field, The Ship Inn at Tresaith, slow service but decent food and a great view, is worth a visit, especially as you can run off that meal on the beach immediately below the restaurant. The best place in the area however is the Harbour Masters Hotel in Aberaeron, a great contemporary boutique hotel with a restaurant to match (not particularly child friendly however). Aberaeron also has a great café at the Hive on the Quay – which is on the other hand very child friendly.
Shopping
New Quay has two Spar type shops fine for last minute bits and pieces. In fact Anne’s Fresh Foods is only two minutes from the house so ideal for when you run out of milk at breakfast.
There is a large Tesco 24 hrs in Cardigan, 30 minutes drive and in Aberaeron you have all the local village type shops, a great butcher and baker, an excellent fishmongers at the Hive at the Quay, a Boots, and a few nice deli type shops.
There are also several excellent farm shops including an award
winning farm shop at Sarnau and another on the road to Mydroilyn.
